burn belly fatThe battle of the bulge has been an ongoing battle for both men and women. How many times have you sought after the elusive 6 pack with exercise alone? The good news is there are some tasty ways to get rid of unwanted belly fat, so consider adding them to your work out regime.

1. Coconut Oil. I love adding coconut oil to my oatmeal. It takes it to a whole ‘nother level. Not only is it the most delicious oil on the planet, but it has a plethora of health benefits. There are a couple of studies that shows coconut oil to be safe and effective in reducing belly fat in both men and women. The women consumed 2 tablespoons of coconut oil per day for 12 weeks and experienced significant reduction in waist circumference.

The men also consumed 2 tablespoons of coconut oil per day, taken 30 minutes before each meal for 1 month. They lost an average of over 1 inch reduction in their waist.

2. Green Tea. Did you know green tea used to be referred to as the medicine that grew into a beverage? There’s been over 200 health conditions that can be “treated” by drinking a cup of this delicious elixir. In a 2009 study published in the journal Obesity, green tea was shown to be successful in reducing 2 inches off the waist. Just drop a bag in your water with a squeeze of lemon and you’re all set.

3. Sunlight. Who knew that sunlight is a great way to burn belly fat. The exposure to UV light prevents vitamin D deficiency. People who are low in vitamin D are not only subject to obesity, but they also have a greater amount of visceral fat. For those who like to jog, make sure the sun is out when you go for your daily run.

4. Soy Protein. Even though soy is a punching bag for some people, there is some medicinal value to this little gem. In postmenopausal women, soy has been found to reduce abdominal fat and it also has hormone modulating properties.

Even though adding these foods to your diet will help you burn belly fat, you still need to exercise at least 3 days a week. In other words, move it and you will lose it. I like to do intervals because it helps me burn the most fat in a 30 min workout. I walk for 3 minutes, then run for 1 minute. In between, I do 10 push ups and I’m done. Anything that raises and lowers your heart rate will help you burn more fat so let’s get moving!
